Our December Member of the Month is...

Tony Trimper!

Back in September, Tony shared his intention to reach an ambitious goal - to loose 35+ pounds - by his birthday in November. Over the 60 days that followed, Tony's been sharing updates, progress and challenges; Shane's been sharing tips and advice, and an entire community has followed and supported his journey the entire way. We had a chat with Tony to find out how all this got started, check on his progress and find out what's in store for 2017.

Let's start with how you got started at Rocky Lake.

I joined in November 2015 (1 year ago!) on a groupon deal. I had been looking for something to get in shape; I was diagnosed with type II diabetes back in June 2015 so it was time to make some changes. A friend of mine was really into CrossFit and had told me all about it. I was interested in trying it out.

What was your first impression?

My first class was a 4-hour fundamentals - so all the fundamentals done in one shot. I fell on my head trying to do a handstand and I smashed my hand on a 30" box jump.

So what made you keep coming back?!

Despite all that it was really fun and there was a really great community of people. Everyone was so friendly.

Tell us about the progress you had made up to this past October.

My cardio endurance had definately improved and I lost a bit of weight. I've definately gotten stronger. 

What made you decide to set this challenge for yourself?

Shane had approached me a few times, and I had done nutrition on and off but hadn't really committed to it. I guess I just wasn't ready to go all-in. I guess I just finally decided it was time, and Shane was right there ready to go when I finally was.

What has been the most difficult part about chasing your goal?

Juggling the schedule  - I work a lot so planning meals was really important.

When you hit rough patches, what were some of the things that helped you get through?

People knowing that I had this goal in mind heldped a lot to keep me on point. We had a little facebook chat going; Shane would ask about my progress in the group so everyone there would see if I was staying the course. So having the support of a little community behind me was really motivating and kept me accountable.

Where are you right now?

232lbs - 36lb lost!

What do you think has been the key to your success?

Accountability! People knowing what I was up to, and especially Shane checking in all the time and helping me so much with nutrition and how much exercise I needed to do, how many calories to burn, etc. 

Also using My Fitness Pal for tracking it all made it so much easier to see where I was at.

The new year is just around the corner - what are your goals for 2017?

Basically to maintain this weight while getting stonger and leaner. I also want to work on my flexibility!

You run into a friend who hasn't seen you for awhile and they are blown away by your transformation. The first thing they say is 'I could never do that'. What to do you say back?

Not to be cliché - but "If i can anyone can!". I love life and having fun - and enjoying the food that goes with it. But anyone can do it with the right attitude and support around them.

Tell us something people might not know about you:

I have a masters in Divinity but I work in financial planning!

Anything you'd like to add?

One of the things I really like about Rocky Lake is that it is for everyone. It's not just about the "athletes" - us 'average joes' have a home here, too. The coaches and the community really make it a great place to be.

Tony has joined the team representing Rocky Lake at the 5th annual Blizzard Beatdown in Moncton this coming January. Good Luck Tony!
